Now, though, you'll see teams parking the bus and deploying the long ball. If there was one continued criticism of the gameplay, it's that every team in the game, from the best in Europe to a non-League English side, attempted to play the Barcelona tiki-taka way. And, thankfully for this year, they've introduced Team Styles, with AI based on differing tactics. Indeed, there's something hugely rewarding about digging out a dogged goalless draw rather than becoming embroiled in a daft 4-4 goalfest.įIFA allows you to do that. Yet it's the actual gameplay that keeps the franchise on its hard-earned pedestal as it continues to edge closer to a more accurate representation of the sport rather than a more arcade-like and ultimately less satisfying affair. Give the screen a cursory glance mid-action, and it's easy to forget you're watching a collection of pixels rather than the beautiful game itself.Īgain powered by the Frostbite engine, FIFA looks delicious, with new crowd scenes, presentation graphics and sounds delivering what EA rightly claim is the most immersive iteration to date.
